The new leisure centre will offer a gym, six-lane pool, learner pool, sports hall/dance studio facilities, and spin studio. The specification for the new leisure centre will endeavour to incorporate energy efficient and carbon footprint reducing technology throughout the building. This potentially includes innovative pool filtration systems, rainwater harvesting and a combined heat and power system.
Kennedy Redford is providing Civil and Structural Engineering design consultancy to deliver this important development for the local Halifax and wider borough community.
Key constraints at the site include the presence of a culverted watercourse that traverses the site, which have required a design to be put forward that supports the proposed building structure and maintains the integrity of this buried statutory asset.
Kennedy Redford has progressed technical details in order that a formal build over agreement can be entered into with the relevant statutory undertaker.
The building superstructure has been designed as an economic steel frame supporting composite concrete floors, and lightweight clear span roof elements over the 2 pool areas.
Kennedy Redford has provided a coordinated substructure arrangement to facilitate the construction of both pools within the leisure centre. This has required close collaboration with a number of specialist plant and swimming pool sub-consultants and designers.
